The group of artists All The Cunning Stunts approached us to put together a catalogue documenting the five month process of creating the Courtenay Place light box artwork. From the their website:
A series of sixteen image, graphic and text-based works for the Courtenay Place light boxes in Wellington, New Zealand. Along with curator Mary-Jane Duffy we have developed All the Cunning Stunts to coincide with the advent of the 2011 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames and in response to a curatorial brief to address ‘contemporary homosexuality’.
During the design process they happened to show us a modesty shield used on a gossip magazine featuring Elton John & partner holding their baby, to help 'protect' young shoppers. We liked this idea and used it in a design sense; protecting viewers from the Stunts aesthetic with a minimalist cover, then going OTT on the inside. We also used the gossip magazine format and paper stock.
